| Fact or fiction...? According to Middle Eastern folklore, wine was not in fact an invention of man but discovered by accident. A Persian fable tells of an unhappy princess who has fallen out of favour with her king. She is so miserable she decides to end her life by poisoning herself with spoiled grapes. She falls asleep and wakes to find that all her stress has been cured. The king shares his daughter's discovery with his court, and thus began a tradition dating back as far as 6000 BC. |
