France produces some of the best wine in the world that reaches the highest prices. So why do people steer clear of it?
1. They don't know where to start. That's no surprise since there are literally thousands of vineyards in the country, and regions that produce entirely different wines in taste and quality. 2. It's too expensive. French wine boasts some of the highest prices in the world, but would you pay £1,000 for a bottle? 3. There's too much variety. How can you tell one label from another, when one wine from Chateau de la Tour goes for a £5, while another from Chateau Latour for £500! 4. New World wines are much more approachable. Why spend ten pounds on a slightly insipid wine from Saint Emilion, when you can get a fruity, quaffable wine from Australia for £7? But did you know that there is a huge amount of fanstastic French wine that beats hands down the commercial competition from the New World for the same price?
The problem is, you'll be hard pushed to find it on the supermarket shelves, or even in most off licences and big online retailers. |
